It is our immense pleasure to invite you to attend the XIII International Conference on Magnetic Fluids (ICMF) to be held at the National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi, India. The triennial meeting of ICMF has been organized in different parts of the world since 1977. The first one was organized in Udine (Italy) followed by Florida(USA), Bangor(UK), Sendai(Japan), Riga (Latvia), Paris(France), Bhavnagar(India), Timisoara (Romania), Bremen (Germany), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Kosice (Slovakia) and again Sendai in Japan. In India too, this conference will be organized for the second time in January 2013 at the New Delhi. National Physical Laboratory being a premier laboratory established by the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research CSIR-India in 1947. The main aim of the laboratory is to strengthen and advance physics-based research of highest standard and to provide leadership in technological innovation for the industrial growth of the country. The institute also bears the flag of the National Metrology Institute (NMI) of the country.
The main objective of ICMF - XIII is to have active interaction and collaboration among the researchers working in the field of magnetic fluids. The Indian Society of Magnetic fluid Research has been established in 1997 to educate the scientific community to carry out research in magnetic fluids. This event will strengthen the collaborative efforts of young researchers in broadening their horizons in their respective fields.
Magnetic fluids are quite interesting and technologically advanced materials. The importance of nano-size in technology was first recognized in the field of magnetic fluids. Hence, with the advent of nanotechnology there is a greater thrust in R&D work in this field. It encompasses all the branches of natural as well as applied science, engineering and health care too. The multidisciplinary character of ferrofluid research has caused a necessity for active interaction between the applied and basic researchers and technologists. The devices based on these collaborative efforts are developing with a spectacular pace. The research in the field has been diversified and covers the whole field of mechanics of continuous media.
ICMF - XIII shall provide an opportunity for young researchers to interact with eminent scientists in the area of magnetic fluids. It will provide a platform for interaction between academicians, technology experts and industrialists. The conference program will have plenary talks, invited lectures by the eminent scientists, oral and poster presentations on the latest developments in the field of magnetic fluids. Thus, it is planned to have good interactions and knowledge sharing. We are sure that this meeting will bring fruitful results to the magnetic fluids community.
Once again, we welcome you all to the capital city of India which represents the heritage, legacy and hospitable people, who will be delighted to welcome you here and will ensure your stay remember able. You will find here many beautiful historical monuments dating from Aryan times over the Mughal period to recent times. The month of January is pleasant with an average temperature around 15 degree Celsius.

It is proposed to give two best paper award to young researchers below the age of 35 by providing them travel, local hospitality and an award certificate along with the award money.
